Where can a vegetarian find restaurants serving meat-free food in Los Angeles?

It isn’t as hard as you think. There are several restaurants that cater exclusively to vegetarians in the city of Angels. It’s simply a matter of knowing where to look. Most guidebooks only list one or two vegetarian options so sometimes it might seem like there aren’t as many options as there are.

Where are most of the vegetarian restaurants located?

Let’s face it: Los Angeles is huge. Visitors often want to pinpoint the hub or center of the city but it’s an impossible task. When you visit L.A. you are going to need an open mind and some method of transportation, whether it be a rental car or enough money for taxis. That way you can sample all the city has to offer – there are vegetarian restaurants located all over the city, from Torrance (in the South Bay) to the Valley.

Perhaps one of the most popular and well-known restaurants featuring vegetarian far in Los Angeles is Sante La Brea(345 N La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90036, 323 857 0412). While this restaurant is not strictly vegetarian, they do serve a vegetarian menu and are quite popular for that reason. You’ll find a vegetarian burrito, tostada, spinach enchilada, macrobiotic plate, falafel platter, and more.

One of the most interesting all-vegetarian restaurants is called House of Vege (2439 Pacific Coast Hwy, Lomita, CA 90717, 310 530 1180) It’s a Chinese restaurant that doesn’t serve an ounce of flesh. Instead, they serve up faux everything, from shark fin to sweet and sour pork to squid to orange chicken. It’s all made using soy and vegetables and is delicious.

If you’re in the mood for Indian instead of Chinese head to Samata (12321 Ventura Blvd, Studio City, CA 91604, 818 761 7696). Try the ten kinds of dal, the great selection of rice dishes, the naan bread, or pile your plate high at their daily lunch buffet. This is an economical choice that will fill you up leave you satisfied.

And finally, if you’re down Long Beach way, head to Papa John’s (5006 E. Second Street, Long Beach, CA 90803, 562 439 1059). They serve up tasty vegetarian fare and health food. Try the Mexican entrees, the excellent garden burgers, or the colorful salads. There is also a juice bar on the premises.

No matter what area of Los Angeles you find yourself in, you will have no problem finding a restaurant that serves food for the vegetarian diet. More restaurants like these are popping up every day as more and more people get turned onto the lifestyle and health benefits of cutting meat out one’s diet.
